5th-Vishuddha
5th: Throat Chakra, from Sanskrit Vishuddha meaning "purification", connected to the Thyroid gland. Located at the throat. Center of communication, not just with others, but with your own self talk.
The gift of this chakra is being able to speak your own truth and clearly hear another’s. You can stand up for what you believe and for yourself, openly and honestly.
The trick of this chakra is not mistaking your emotional truth for the actual truth. It is important to express your emotions verbally, and in fact, there is no better way to process your emotions than to express them verbally through yelling, talking, singing, etc...But, because of entanglements with others and hurt feelings, it is often best to verbalize your feelings and emotional truth privately (scream into a pillow, talk to a tree, yell in your car, talk to yourself) until the emotion has been processed and metabolized in a very physical manner. This is why journaling, while helpful, often does not help us release and process our emotions.
After processing your emotional truth you will arrive at your Truth and then you can speak freely with others about it. When you speak your Truth, you can filter it through four questions: is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Is it helpful? This kind of questioning before speaking will help others to hear your truth.
The element associated with this chakra is Ether, which is not physical, but still exists, just like our voice. Our voice is not a tangible, touchable part of who we are, and yet, our voice is who we are. Some are still trying to find their voice and give substance and form to who they are.
Core beliefs around this chakra are related to Truth.
*Do you speak the truth? Or do you avoid it?
*How well do you connect with other people? Can you hear them? Are you willing to hear their truth?
*Are you missing a filter? Does it feel like you often hurt other's feelings?
*Do you mistake your emotional truth for the TRUTH?
The thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate the body's metabolic rate as well as heart and digestive function, muscle control, brain development, mood and bone maintenance. We have receptors for thyroid hormone on every single cell of our body, so imagine that we are holding negative emotions (which are all chemically charged) and then those emotions are dispersed into every cell in the body. The thyroid is either silent (hypo) or too loud (hyper).
5th chakra blend...
*Frankincense: the oil of truth (and the oil of connecting to the father, both paternal, human father and Father God). Since this chakra is all about truth, this is an appropriate oil. Helps to support balance in the thyroid.
*Myrrh: the oil of mother earth (and mother), we learn communication from our mother and father. Also helps to support the thyroid.
*Marjoram: the oil of connection-speaking is all about connection. A very calming oil, it helps us to relax. The thyroid responds to stress, so this oil can help us to lower our stress response.
*Lavender: the oil of communication, also very calming to the nerves and the thyroid.
*Spearmint: the oil of confident speech, can help to stimulate the thyroid.
